tea bag wisdom and the summer solstice

tea bag wisdom

One company is printing quotes on the paper tags attached to the string of its tea bags.  We share a few of these with you now.

Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.  (Unknown)

Sometimes you have to stop thinking so much and just go where your heart takes you. (Unknown)

Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.  –  Robert F. Kennedy

Don’t carry your mistakes around.  Instead place them under your feet to use as stepping stones.  (Unknown)

The only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday. (Unknown)

Overcome the notion that we must be regular … it robs you of the chance to be extraordinary.  –  Uta Hagan

the summer solstice

Many individuals celebrate or make something out of the summer solstice (that occurs in the northern hemisphere on Saturday, 21 June 2014).  These individuals may have differing motivations.  For some, it may be an excuse to party with friends.  For others, it may be a form of nature worship or other New Age or neo-pagan ritual.  Today, it seems that many folks will greet the sunrise on the summer solstice at various locations (for some it will be on a hilltop, or mountain, and for others it will be in a clearing in the forest or meadow).  In ancient times,  some people danced naked around large bon fires at midnight on the summer solstice, and then participated in orgies and debauchery.  Perhaps, some moderns will engage in such behavior somewhere in the world this weekend.

We enjoy the change of seasons.  And, we are for responsible stewardship and conservation of natural resources and the environment, but we do not deify nature or the forces of nature or natural phenomena.

sundry thoughts

Ultimately, the only one who can look after your best interests is you.  If you don’t believe this, sooner or later, you likely will.  Your experiences will prove this to you.

Do we only know the good by its contrast to the bad?

One-half of the challenge is recognizing and admitting there is a problem.  The constructive resolution is the other, the second, half of the challenge (of solving a problem).  In other words, be honest with one’s self, be realistic and do not choose to remain in a state of denial.  Face up to problems and work for constructive resolutions of these.

Drop the mask (of old age) – the soul, the atman, is eternally young.

“You have found love inside you; you will take it with you out there, into the world.”

(We have paraphrased from memory the concluding remark in an Outer Limits (sci-fi) television episode, The Guests, from 1963/4.)

Fact:  There are approximately 7 billion people alive today in our world.  The exact figure, whatever it is, changes many, many times each second as individuals are killed, born, and die every second of every day and night.

Fact:  These 7 billion individuals, they cannot all live in these United States.  (We wrote on immigration questions last summer (2013), and this is the extent of our update on this currently debated and contentious issue.)

Fact: If we do not get a few likes on this essay, we are going on strike.  If no one reads these essays, why ought we bother to write them?
